Australia's winemaking tradition is less than two centuries old, however Penfolds has been one of the most important companies since its inception and its history deeply reflects the evolution of the country from the colonial era to the modern era. Founded in 1844 , only 8 years after the birth of the state of South Australia, Penfolds has in fact played a fundamental role in the way of making wine in Australia and in the world , thanks to the work of Max Schubert , the company's oenologist since the years' 50, who managed, with an unusual determination , to fulfill his dream of making the best wine in all of Australia: Grange Bin 95 . Since then Penfolds has been an absolute reference point with its critically acclaimedwines; it is no coincidence that Penfolds was the only Australian company to receive, for Grange's 2008 vintage, a rating of 100 points from both Wine Spectator and Robert Parker , and 99 pointsfrom Robert Parker in the current year.
